ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GETTING WET
No matter if you’re solo or not, whether you’re playing with fingers, mouths, toys, vaginas or derrieres, lubricant is essential for a good time in the bedroom and beyond. Saliva may go a little way, but nothing can compete with the pure sensual slide of a generous helping of glide.
But where to start? Which one to choose? How much to use? (Answer: as much as possible). Water-based, silicone-based… and what’s up with the oil ones anyway?
Thankfully, choosing the best lube for you and your partner(s) is pretty straightforward, with pros and cons for each. So slide on down and let us take you through all things lube…
WATER-BASED LUBES
The most popular type of glide, water-based lubricants are easy to find, easy to use and compatible with most materials found in condoms or toys because they’re, well… water-based (no sh!t Sherlock). They’re also great for people with sensitive skin, and don’t stain the sheets. As the main ingredient is water, these lubes tend to evaporate quicker than other options so be sure to reapply as much and as often as needed to keep the feelings flying.
SILICONE-BASED LUBES
Longer-lasting and silkier than water-based options, silicone-based lube is great if you’re into waterplay for example. The downside is that it can degrade silicone toys, so make sure you check materials before you start smothering everything in glide.
OIL-BASED LUBES
You may have experimented with baby oil or ingredients found in your pantry, yet there is a whole range of oil-based lubricants out there specifically designed for use on and inside sensitive areas of your persona. Enjoyed by many for their long-lasting, often-fragrant, slick-feeling and gently-moisturising properties, oil-based lubes have the disadvantage of not liking latex. This means they can’t be paired with most safer sex barriers. In this case, you’re better off with a water or silicone-based option.
HYBRID LUBES
The best of both worlds… Hybrid lubes are usually water-based with a touch of silicone or oil added to ensure they stick around for longer. The percentage of silicone is usually small enough that it won’t degrade toys, but ensure you rinse them quickly afterwards just to be on the safe side.
SPICE IT UP
If you’re looking for something a little more exotic than straightforward basics, many of the categories above have some fun options to add a touch of taste and sensation to your pleasure.
Go with a special flavour, opt for planet-friendly with an organic lubricant or turn the dial on the senses with tingly, warming or refreshing glides.
Whatever you do and whomever you’re with, remember that wetter is most often better. Ready ? Steady… Glide.
